Inspired by the Beatles

Creative Tuesdays theme this week was the Beatles.  I have been a lifelong fan of the Beatles.  My mother credits the Beatles with helping her learn English.  I have many childhood memories if listening to the Beatles in front of a crackling fire with my mom and older brother.  When I was a teenager in the 80's I'm sure I was the only one I knew who actually listened to Beatles songs on cassette in my car!

I had lots and lots of great ideas but in the end...I think everyone one be disappointed if I didn't choose "Lovely Rita."  It's not even close to being my favorite Beatles song, in fact I have a love/hate relationship with this song.  Growing up I always felt a bit vain when people would mention the song and called me lovely.  As an adult I hear references to it less and less, I suppose there are fewer and fewer who are familiar with it but it does pop up once in a while as the ringtone on my cell phone...here's a little sketch.

We are not the only bunch inspired by the Beatles, take a look at these...all found on Pinterest:

  3. Oh, I love your art work here! Very clever...and yes you would have almost had to have done this song! Kinda fun to have one with your name in it and that you have it as your ringtone. :) Fun other Beatles pieces here, too...nice to add them to your post!

  7. these are great, and how funny is it that this song just came up on my Ipod about an hour ago. These are really nice, I love Pinterest, so much to see and enjoy there. Your interpretation of the song is great, the little details are outstanding, the call Rita, and the meter needle are very nice touches, as is the background. Fun work. Thanks

Ha, yes, I suppose you did rather have to do that one did't you? A very well done version I might add. I like the fun addition of call 123-rita. Yes, can only imagine your love hate relationship with the song then. but wait, i thought i was the only teen in the 80's who listened to the Beatles...at least in London. Lol.

    anyway, great job. TY!

  10. Hi Rita, really enjoyed your entry for this!! The coloring, the text, the mix of pen and watercolors... just lovely! And I know what you mean about it being hard to pick a song and stuff. Yup, I can totally relate. And it's interesting to see the other art work from pinterest!
