29 Faces #1

Happy Sunday of a long weekend (in the USA.)  I hope you are enjoying!  I decided to participate in another challenge.  This time creating 29 faces in the month of September.  I've always felt like I wanted to practice my faces, they are not something I feel comfortable drawing.

I'm not sure if this is a real "rule" of the challenge or just something I think I read somewhere but I thought the only "rule" is to use a medium you don't normally use.  So...here is my "GREEN LADY" is pastels, both soft and oil.  I did her in bed this morning while sipping my coffee.  I probably got pastels all over my white sheets!  I think she is pretty good for a first attempt!

And now I'm off to the beach!

  1. She's lovely! I always find pastels so difficult to use but you've got lots of great detail with yours. Super challenge start :)

  3. She's very sweet! I love the colorful frame you gave her too. I'm participating in the challenge for the first time this month as well. I'm using mediums I use often (pencil mainly & the occasional acrylic painting), but I don't usually complete that many faces in that time frame, so that's my challenge part of the challenge...

  4. Gorgeous! I haven't done much with pastels in the past. They are a mystery to me. I work a lot in bed, coffee in hand as well. I can't believe my white comforter has survived as long as it has! Nothing short of a miracle. Have fun with the challenge! xo, janice

  5. Rita, she is gorgeous. I used water soluble oil paints, a medium I don't do portraits in for my first face. I doubt that I will continue in this medium. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule about what to use. Isn't this for having fun and trying new things? Doing a face a day will be new for me.

  8. Wonderful face, and I love the green!
I was thinking of playing with pastels in an upcoming face since it's a medium I rarely use. But I may play with the oil pastels first, since they're even more rare. :)

    Merry creating!

    1. Hi Uuna, I drew the face and hair in pencil and then did the basic colors, peach and green on her skin and brown in her hair with soft pastels. I blended with my finger. Then I used black and brown oil pastels for the dark lines. I filled in and blended more with the soft pastels and used more soft pastels blended with white for the frame.
