The Fog Lifts

Living near the ocean you get used to the fog.  All of us lucky enough to live in coastal neighborhoods will tell you we don't mind the fog but the truth is, we are all just waiting for the fog to lift!  Here is a view of the Santa Cruz Island as the fog lifts.

Happy PPF and happy birthday to me.  Yes, it's a shameless plug for birthday wishes.  :)

Finally, I have had a very challenging time photographing my art lately.  I have a great digital camera, a tri-pod and still not happy with the results.  For instance, the dark corner on the bottom right of the top photo and the way the white edges look pink.  Also, there are lots of brush stroke details lost in the photo.  Any suggestions and tips would be most welcome!

  1. Happy birthday! That's a lovely painting and it must be lovely to live so near the coast. We live not too far away but it's Northern Ireland so the weather is usually just grey and wet!
As for photographing art - I have the same problems but I find trying to do it in natural light helps limit any shadows and running your photo through perfectly clear on photoshop or just the colour adjustor on any photo programme really will help to brighten and clarify it. Using a macro setting could help to pick out the detail of the brush strokes too. hope that might help!

  6. Happy Birthday Rita!! Love your beautiful blue sky! Know the feeling with trying to photograph art, never seems to capture the real thing like you want it too.

  8. Happy birthday and great painting to share with us this week... I have trouble with photographing as well but my hubs has made me a white box that helps reflect the light around and make it clearer and crisper... I also shine a lamp with a daylight globe in it when it is a bit shadowy and that makes a huge difference ... xx

  9. I love foggy mornings! I really want to live somewhere that fog is an actual weather condition, so I love this coastal scene.

Don't know what kind of camera you are using but you might run through the menu and see if there is a setting for "brighten subject".

  14. Go outside and shoot it in the shade. then brighten it on Picasa or some other editing program. It's a lovely painting and looks very cool on the easel.
    HPPF on Sat.

  15. Lovely blog and painting Rita which I enjoyed lots. I have the same photographic problems too despite whether it's natural light or not. Quite frustrating.

  18. I adore your painting. Such beautiful blues! I always try to take photos of my work in natural day light, near a bright sunny window, with no indoor lighting. (I know it's not much of a tip... Still trying to figure out my camera settings!) Either way, your painting is fantastic. xoxox and Happy Belated Birthday!!
